Safety
Dangerous intersections, inadequate winter maintenance, unsafe infrastructure, speeding on residential streets—these are all examples of situations where residents may fear for their safety within City of Montréal.
Land use planning must be designed with the physical safety of the people who use it in mind. We handle cases in which residents, living in their daily environments, bring to our attention dangerous situations that arise or persist and compromise their safety.
Our interventions aim to identify dangerous situations, gather data to objectively assess the issue (e.g., vehicle speed surveys or traffic studies), and request that measures be implemented to make the situation safer.
Here are examples of the types of cases related to safety cases that we have handled:
- Adding pedestrian signals or the extension of crossing times to make an intersection safer;
- Installing a mirror at the entrance of a parking lot located on a curve to improve visibility of pedestrians and vehicles;
- Improving safety around a construction site near a school;
- On street corners, requiring the trimming of hedges that exceed the maximum permitted height, in order to improve visibility.
