Accessibilité universelle
Universal accessibility is the condition that enables everyone to participate.
Universal accessibility requires that everyone, regardless of their abilities, be able to enjoy, independently, the same opportunities and to have a positive experience.
Some people, such as those with mobility disabilities, face greater barriers in the physical world when getting around. Others have more difficulty accessing information, such as those with visual, hearing, or intellectual challenges.
Universal accessibility is a constant concern for the Ombudsman de Montréal. Our interventions aim to improve accessibility to the City’s infrastructure and services.
Here are examples of the types of cases related to universal accessibility that we have intervened in:
- Adapting bicycle facilities to ensure accessibility to parking spaces or drop-off zones designated for people with reduced mobility;
- Improving snow removal operations to facilitate the movement of people with reduced mobility on sidewalks and in drop-off zones;
- Reviewing a refusal by the City for a reserved parking space or drop-off zone for people with reduced mobility.
